"Rose and
the Dandelion"
Said the Rose
to the Dandelion, "How can
you stand being you? "For I
am sought after by people.
"I symbolize love. "I
symbolize beauty. "And you
-- you are a weed, "Despised
by people whose lawns "Are
cultured, trimmed and cared
for. "I am a wondrous and
beautiful creature of God.
"How can you stand being you?"
And in reply
-- Said the Dandelion to the
Rose, "You are a wondrous
and beautiful creature of
God. "You are sought after,
treasured and loved. "But it
is earthly people who call me a weed. Yet
-- "Children delight in
me. "They call me a flower
and search for me. "To them
I am beautiful. "To them I
am love. "As they gather me
up in bunches "With their
tiny little hands "And give
me to their mothers and fathers --
And "I can be picked by
little hands "With no fear
of thorns, of pain, of blood --
You "And you represent
love "For some, but so do
I "And I too am a wondrous
and beautiful creature of God --
And "What benefit will your
arrogance be in heaven?"
